In Its Season

“For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven”

– Ecclesiastes 3:1

God created the world to function in seasons. Summer, winter, spring, fall, day and night. Each season has characteristics that are specific to itself. This explains why certain fruits can only yield in certain seasons, and why certain temperatures can only emerge through certain seasons. Genesis 8:22 says, “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” Notice how some seasons are longer than others and some seasons are more bearable and tolerable than others. It’s also important to note that everything is beautiful but only in its season and this is why God may not grant us our desires as soon as we ask simply because it is not yet time.

God has planned each and everyone one of our lives in phases and seasons and it is important that when God places us in certain seasons, we allow ourselves to be groomed and prepared for the seasons to come. If we refuse preparation in the season of waiting, when the waiting period is over, without that preparation we are bound to fail. For example, most teenagers and youth desire to move out of their parents’ house once they hit the age of 18, but if in the 18 years that they lived in their parents’ house, they did not submit themselves to training and preparation, when the time comes to live on their own, it will become too much to handle causing a blessing to feel like a curse.

A waiting period is not about trying to rush out of it but about equipping ourselves with the tools necessary for the next because if we try to fast forward a season, we will end up in a season that we are not ready for. See, a common misconception is that the season of waiting is because God is not ready to give us that blessing, whereas the truth is that God is waiting for us to be ready for that blessing. If we now spend the time that He gave us for preparation trying to devise new strategies to leave a season prematurely, then we have wasted our time and will likely never receive that blessing that we were waiting for.

In the season of winter, if you try to leave the house without your winter jacket because you so desire for it to be summer, well good luck. In the season of isolation, if you don’t take the time to build a relationship with God and go through the process of pruning and moulding, you will not be ready for your season of manifestation. The season of isolation can also be a time of protection. When Joseph and Mary were told that king Herod would attempt to kill Jesus, they recognized that it was now time to enter a season of isolation by fleeing to Egypt ultimately to protect Jesus. In the season of growth, if we choose not to change and stay stagnant in our behaviour and reasoning, it will be impossible for God to grant us the rewards that He has in store.

It is also crucial to underline that seasons are only temporary and will not last forever. In the seasons of life that seem like never-ending cycles, remember that it is only a season. Dr Miles Munroe once said, “never make a permanent decision for a temporary problem”. In other words, permanent decisions can lead to permanent problems. In seasons of life, we need to remember that its not in our place to take matters into our own hands with the intention of changing the season that we have found ourselves in. God is the author and finisher, alpha and omega, and all things are under His control alone. Even when it doesn’t make sense, God is prepared. So, keep the faith alive and watch your season of peace, joy, and rest begin to unfold.

Thank you and stay blessed.
