The Quest to Spiritual Mastery

There is a very funny phenomenon that people experience when they begin to walk with God. It is a phenomenon that kills destinies before they reach full maturity. This phenomenon is explained in this- You sang a song, and people were so blessed that they stood and sang along. Which is beautiful but then you too, you clap for yourself and say, “Oh my Soul, find rest”, What rest? Which work have you done that you want to rest? You presented a FOC article and standing ovation! People meet you after church to say, “more wisdom and more grace”. They even call you Showman! Then, you pat yourself on the back and you think you are champion. Champion? Compared to who and to what?

Bro Sam Osho once presented an article on “The Glory of God” for about 3 minutes and the glory of God in this room was palpable. I went back to study that article for years after that. What did he know that I didn’t? How was he able to recreate excellence so consistently? What am I doing wrong and how can I better? This was not Jealousy or foolish comparison. This was me provoking myself to greater heights. Until you are dissatisfied with your current level, you will not go higher. A local champion will never go beyond his locality.

Don’t get me wrong, do not despise the days of small beginnings. Thank God for the little he has used you for. But shake off pride and go back to work on yourself. There is more in this kingdom and in life to get. Paul in Phil 3:13-14 said “Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, 14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.”

This is the “Apostle Paul” speaking here. Imagine! This is the same Paul that revealed so many supernatural secrets that hundreds of years later, we are still excavating the mysteries behind his letters. This is the same guy that sent his handkerchief on a healing mission. That same person is telling you that he continues to press. Destroy that arrival mentality. There are greater heights to reach in destiny.

The bible says, “A man’s gift makes room for him and brings him before great men.” But understand that is as far as raw gifts and talents can take you. There is an expectation of refinement and of mastery. Gifts will attract men to you, but it is mastery that brings relevance. “Do you see a man who excels in his work?”. Excellence is defined by mastery over your giftings and skills. It is defined by your understanding of what works, why it works and how it works. It is an understanding of these 3 questions that makes up your ability to recreate an excellent result. You are not excellent if your results are inconsistent.

If you, as a choir member, are unable to master the mysteries behind worship- then sometimes your music will be a music ministration and sometimes it will be a music performance. There is a difference. Just like there is a difference between a teaching, backed up by the Spirit of Conviction to bring transformation- and an ordinary motivational speech that people will forget the moment the next person climbs the altar. Oratory skills and a beautiful vocal range alone do not secure the backing of the Holy Spirit. Music and word ministrations flows from the heart of a worshipper. Not the throat. There are principles and laws that control spiritual outcomes

There are many people like me here, who have not healed ourselves of ordinary headache. But then we rush out after reading “In my name, they will heal the sick” and see an unbeliever at work who has flu and pray for them. Instead of them to be healed, the headache even intensifies, and then we disgrace Jesus in public. It’s because we don’t understand what principles govern the flow of the healing anointing. And then instead of us to go and say like the disciples said “Kai, what happened?”, we just save face and say, “the person did not have faith” or “The Holy Spirit will heal him overnight” Abegii. So that by that time the person would have taken Tylenol abi. You then ask the person the next day and they say im feeling a bit better than yesterday, then we reply, “Behold, the power of Christ”. Which Jesus is doing half healing with us? Has there ever been a time in the bible where Jesus touched someone and said, “go home and sleep, I will complete it in the middle of the night. Just register your name and address with Peter”. It’s a lie, it’s because we don’t have mastery.

“One thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead, I press”. It is not time to “rest” at all. Study the word, Spend time in prayer. Enjoy Fasting! Read books about the experiences of anointed people of God, let them inspire you. Hone your spiritual gifts! Find out what principles and laws control those giftings! Until we can consistently replicate the results of Jesus, we press! Until we can truly walk in the fullness of the realities of “Greater Works”, We press! Until we can accurately predict mysterious spiritual outcomes, we press! Until the supernatural becomes our natural, we press!
