REVELATION 3:14-18.
14 And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18 I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
From this scripture, I can say authoritatively that the presence of wealth is not a sign that God is present with you because even unbelievers are prospering. One of the signs of God’s presence in a place, is the desire to always live righteous and holy. The Church in our day is prospering but heaven is not profiting, because unbelievers will come into the house of the Lord hoping to be saved and then discover that the church is not different from a book club. Jesus is calling us to check if our quest for riches and greatness on earth has swallowed up our love and desire to meet with Him in heaven. We are lacking the power to bring souls into the kingdom, and nobody is worried. We have many churches yet the darkness over the land seems to be getting thicker by the day. We have become so self-centred that even our prayer points show it.
Ezekiel 18:23 says “Have I any pleasure at all that the wicked should die? saith the Lord GOD: and not that he should return from his ways, and live?”. This scripture tells us that God desire is for the wicked to repent from all their evil ways and come to the knowledge of Christ. But these days, prayers for blessing have become our major prayer points which has made us self-centred. We are forgetting that God wants his will to be done on earth, which is to see the salvation of every man and woman. We should sincerely ask ourselves this question, are we truly ready for Jesus’ return? If Jesus comes, are we even sure that as the Church, we will make it to heaven? Is Jesus pleased with us? If we sincerely answer these questions, we will begin to make amends from today because Jesus can appear anytime.
One of the signs of the end time is men will be lovers of themselves. When we are consumed with what we need and not what God wants, we will not attain perfection in Christ. In 1 Pet 4:13, it says “But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy”. When we partake in the sufferings of Christ, self will die and then we will be able to focus more on God’s will and not on our ambition.
What are the sufferings of Christ? The answer can be found in the book of John 15:18 which says, “If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you”. Which means one of the proofs that you are a partaker in Christ’s suffering is that you will suffer hatred and rejection from men because you chose to be different, you chose to be separate and holy unto God. The bible says in 2 Corinthians 6:17, “Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you”. When the church is ready to partake in Christ’s suffering and live a life that is completely different from an unbeliever, then God can entrust us with the authority to change a generation.
As we focus on the cross this week, let’s ask the lord to purge us of every unrighteousness and clothe us with the garment of holiness.
