Spoken Words

In the beginning,

Before the earth was formed

Before you and me were born

There was a voice

Not a thunder nor a noise

But a word

A purpose

An action

That shook hell and its ploy

It cut through the silence like a sword

“Let there be light”

And darkness couldn’t bare to abide

It scattered and made way for light to shine

Creation didn’t require hands

It needed His voice.

God didn’t create by using bricks

But He did with his breath

He spoke life into death

Every “let there be” wasn’t a wish or a hope,

But it was a command

Creating the land on which we stand

Then, the word became flesh

The bible says in John chapter 1

“In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God”

“And the Word was made flesh and dwelt among us”

This Word walked on dusty roads and spoke peace into the storms

Jesus Christ – the spoken word in human form

He didn’t only come to speak messages of peace, he is the peace

He didn’t only speak the truth, he is the truth

He said, “Lazarus come out” and the grave was loose

He said, “go and sin no more” and the shame of guilt was diffused

He said, “be healed” and all sickness was excused

The same voice that spoke life into existence

The voice that told the sun when to rise and the moon where to hide

The voice that speaks behind every blessing of Abraham

Still speaks within

It breathes through you and me

We don’t just write rhymes, we release life

When we speak, we don’t just say words, but we shift minds

Proverbs 18:21 says

“Life and death are in the power of the tongue”

I’ve seen words break

And I’ve seen them bless

So, I try to watch what I say

Because our voices aren’t empty

They carry weight

I’m not just standing here, rhyming to impress but to profess

That the same God that spoke the earth awake, now speaks through you and me for heavens sake

Like Jeremiah we spit words of fire

They don’t burn but they purify

They dignify

They fly high

We choose to speak like God

To form and not to fracture

To bring calmness to the disasters

So, this is much more than poetry, it is a prophecy

Because when I climb this alter and step to the mic

I am partners with the one that has spoken

The one that is speaking through me

The one that first said “let there be”

So, let there be hope

Let there be love

Let there be life

Let there be voices that don’t hide but that shine

And most of all

Let there be you

Let there be me

And let there be us

Fully seen and heard

As our true callings

As vessels of the spoken word.

Alive by the Word!
